Fall Break
In between stuffing my face, I thought of you.... I really did.
I sent a prayer up that your families would be enjoying a wonderful fall break with lots of family and friends around the table. We headed to my sister-in-laws where 18 of us gathered to eat, laugh, build puzzles, watch football games and, of course, to eat. There were many treasured moments which I hope you had too.
As we close out the last few days of this break, I am looking ahead to the next week and even the rest of the month. Here are some highlights:

I sent a prayer up that your families would be enjoying a wonderful fall break with lots of family and friends around the table. As we close out the last few days of this break, I am looking ahead to the next week and even the rest of the month. Here are some highlights:
- We have a field trip this week (Thursday)- Alice in Wonderland will actually feature two of our own students in the show. What a treat! We will be headed out around 8:25 a.m. and arriving back at the school for lunch.
- We will also have practice this week for the Elementary Christmas Program. Here are some details for the program as it pertains to you:
- Dec. 5th @ 7:00 at Sherwood Baptist Church
- Students need to be at the church by 6:40 p.m.
- Dress – nice blue jeans/solid Christmas colored shirts – no cartoon characters
- In December we will be finishing our salt dough map project. It has been rewarding to see the kids converse easily about the Cascade Mountains or the Mississippi River. This is truly music to a geography teacher's ears! I will post pictures soon.. These projects will go home by the end of the month so that your student can proudly show you their work.
- States and Capitals memory work is due December 14th. There are lots of resources online. You can also check out my blog for ideas. 👈
- Will you be visiting family during the holidays? I mention this mainly because our book publishing project will begin in earnest starting in January. Since the topic will be on writing about a parent/grandparent's life as a 4th grader, you may want to get a jump start on interviewing a grandparent/parent. Click Here for some suggested questions to use 👌
- The "Wise Exchange" (aka ticket exchange) seemed to receive a great response. The plan is to have two more exchange days (one in February and another at the end of the school year). Thank you for the candy and various other toys that you sent for the exchange. I welcome any extra treats like fancy pencils, super bouncy balls, and erasers that you want to send my way to add to the "store"
- Carolina's Courage is our 4th grade reader, a 6 chapter book on the life of a young pioneer
family. Although we haven't covered the Westward movement yet in history, it will give the kids a great glimpse of pioneer/colonial life as we move into Ch. 6 in our history. By the way, we will start to move into taking the Abeka chapter tests with Ch. 5-6. This first one will be an open book/notes test, but it will still have a time limit, so students should be familiar with the material when they take the test. Anyone ever made their own butter? I thought it would be fun to try with our group. We will need
some glass mason jars with secure lids if you have any that you would be willing to send. I promise to take good care of them and intend to return them when our project is done.
Mrs. Wise needs some of these! - Walking Worthy Christmas Countdown: I thought about putting up an advent type bulletin board, but after considering the time frame I had to redo a board, I opted for another idea--a calendar with daily options to "Walk Worthy." I am looking forward to joining the kids in this endeavor and I hope families will also enjoy this project. The cost is minimal, but the rewards will be "out of this world." My hope is that this will provide one way to reminding us all what this holiday season (and every day) is about.

Get a copy of the Walking Worthy Calendar for the fridge here! - I have taken lots of pictures and even have some video clips of various things we did this year. If you are interested in having any copies, please send a blank CD-R along with your child and I will burn the photos/videos I have for you. However, I will not guarantee they will be ready by the end of this month- look for it most likely in January. 😊
